SAIPAN STATION JOINS BEAUTIFY CNMI! ADOPT-A-ROAD PROGRAM
 CCD
Tuesday, March 14, 2006

THE SAIPAN Station is doing its share to save the environment of Saipan by signing up with the “Beautify CNMI!” Adopt-a-Road program. Under the name POUC (Port Operators Users Committee), the station grouped with other companies such as Vessel Agents, MELL (Marianas Express Lines, Ltd.) and government agencies like the Commonwealth Ports Authority (CPA), U.S. Coast Guard and Saipan Stevedore Company.

And last February 23, 2007, the Saipan Station’s Paul Camacho, Sales and Marketing manager, and Argie Buensalido, Oceanfreight NVOCC manager, got the ball rolling by picking up trash along the commercial port vicinity of W-2 Highway and Industrial Drive.

Just by their efforts alone, the two managed to net 1,200 pounds of trash. But this is just the beginning as Camacho said “The minimum requirement for Adopt-A-Road program is six clean-up events in one year. However, the POUC group has stepped-up to the plate and committed to 12 clean-up events for the entire year. As such, please look forward to one clean-up per month.”

The Saipan Station is holding another clean-up on March 17, 2007 where they will gather with their team from POUC at the Seaport parking lot. Camacho said that they intend to disburse in groups on both sides of the Middle Road highway “beginning from Shell Puerto Rico going southward towards the Bank of Hawaii, then northward toward the seaport on Industrial Drive along Beach Road.”
